Congratulations to Professor Suzanne Kay (Cornell University) who was awarded the Penrose Medal at the Geological Society of America Meeting this year! Sue got her MS degree at the University of Illinois in 1972 before earning her Ph.D at Brown University. Sue is a world expert on the tectonics of the Andes whose work has been critical in our understanding of Plate Tectonics. The Penrose Medal was established to recognize 'eminent research in pure geology, for outstanding original contributions or achievements that mark a major advance in the science of geology' and is one of the highest honors given by the Geological Society of America. Congratulations Sue!
